(VIDEO) Madurai Meenakshi Temple Chithirai festival begins; Minister PTR and others attend flag hoisting ceremony

MADURAI: The famous annual Chithirai festival of Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Madurai commenced here today morning- on Sunday, April 23rd 2023- with flag hoisting ceremony (Kodiyetram) performed by temple priests.

A large number of devotees had congregated at the temple early in the morning itself to see the flag hoisting ceremony which was done between 10.35 am and 10.59 am in the temple premises today morning. The idols of Lord Sundareswarar and Goddess Meenakshi were specially decorated with flowers.

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Mr.P.T.R.Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Madurai District Collector Dr.S.Aneesh Sekhar, additional collector Mr.Saravanan, Corporation Mayor Ms.Indrani Ponvasanth and senior police officials were among those who attended the flag hoisting ceremony on the first day of Chithirai festival 2023 which started today morning.

Important festivities will take place during this Chithirai festival period. Sri Meenakshi Pattabhishekam will be on 30th April 2023 while the celestial wedding Sree Meenakshi Sundareswarar Thirukalyanam is on May 2nd 2023. The entry of Lord Kallazhagar into River Vaigai in Madurai city is on 5th May 2023.
