MADURAI: The Department of Psychology of American College in Madurai had organized a two-day international conference on topic ‘Psychology across various walks of life’ here on April 18th and 19th 2023 where experts have in the field of psychology spoke on mental health issues.
Senior consultant psychiatrist Dr.C.Ramasubramanian (Director of Ahana Hospitals) in Madurai had inaugurated the conference have a talk on ‘The mental health in India’. Dr.M.Davamani Christober, Principal and Secretary of American College, had presided over the inaugural function.
A press release received from the college yesterday had informed that the conference was conducted by the Department of Psychology which is partially funded by Tamil Nadu Center for Higher Education and Internal Quality Assurance Cell. Dr.Babu Rangarajan, clinical psychologist, Digital Asset consultant, talked about ‘mental health in corporate setting’ while Dr.Vidhya, assistant professor and Head of Department of Apllied Psychology, Central University of Tamil Nadu, had given highlights about ‘mental health among adolescents’.
There were technical sessions in this international conference and paper presentations on various topics related to psychology and social work were there in the two-day meet.
Dr.Augustus Julian Lazmey, Head of Department of Social Work, Dr.P.Arulappan, Head of Department of Religion Philosophy and Sociology and Dr.P.M.Anurama, assistant professor, Department of Religion, Philosophy and Sociology, served as panelists and moderated the paper presentations.
On the second day, Dr.Pandiamani Selvam, Director-Value Education, Brahma Kumaris. talked about ‘the spiritual well-being while Dr.D.Srinivasan, senior psychiatrist, Kovai Medical Center and Hospital. spoke about ‘self esteem and well being’.
Dr.Matt Perelestein from USA, who is project manager at IQVIA, talked about positive mental health through hybrid mode. Dr.Veena Pillai had delivered a talk on mental health of women in current scenario.
The conference was coordinated by a team including the PG head of psychology department and conference convener Dr.M.Suresh Kumar and UG head Ms.R.Kayalvizhi who was the organizing secretary of this two-day conference on April 18th and 19th 2023.
Nearly 150 participants from various places including Chennai, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Visakhapatnam, Kanyakumari and Chidambaram, had attended the conference, according to the press release.
