MADURAI: The situation in Vellaichamy Nadar College at Nagamalai in Madurai is taking a serious turn as three students of that college had started hunger strike today morning- at 9.55 am on April 18th 2023. Three students of SVN College entered into Principal’s room and locked themselves inside, by raising their protest against the exorbitant fees being collected by the college management for the past over three years.
Sources told ‘Lotus Times’ media today that students of Vellaichamy Nadar College in Madurai have been holding several protests for several days, and few students were on sit in protest strike in the college premises and in Principal’s room area.
Revenue officials and police had mediated in this issue raised by students of Vellaichamy Nadar College in Madurai that the college is collecting huge fees from students for Government aided courses.
“Despite the students’ protest for last several weeks, there was no proper response from the Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education, despite the thasildhar’s order. Since the RJD refused to act and because he told the students that he (RJD) can do nothing in this matter, the frustrated students went to do or die path, and resorted to hunger strike in the college Principal’s room, without food and water. The main demand now is to the State Government to take over the college under TNPCR Act Sec 14 A,” a few sources in higher education and those who are concerned with the students’ demand, have told our media ‘Lotus Times’ in Madurai on April 18th 2023.
