MADURAI: The state-of-the-art ‘Kalaignar Memorial Library’ which is being constructed in Madurai by the Tamil Nadu government will be inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K.Stalin on 3rd June 2023 and that date has been fixed to mark the commencement of birth centenary year celebrations of former Chief Minister ‘Kalaignar’ M.Karunanidhi.
Construction works for this mega library in Madurai are nearing completion and the pending works will be completed by the end of April. The State government is building this huge library with modern facilities at a cost of about Rs.114 crores at New Natham Road in Madurai and the total area of this library is 2 lakh sq.ft, and it is a seven storeyed building.
Public Works Department Minister Mr.E.V.Velu had inspected the library building construction works in Madurai on April 7th 2023 along with School Education Minister Mr.Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and Commercial Taxes Minister Mr.P.Moorthy. He held a meeting with concerned officials and enquired about the progress of works.
“The foundation stone for Kalaignar Memorial Library in Madurai was laid by Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin on January 11th 2022. Construction works were carried out at a rapid pace in the last 14 months and we are satisfied. This library will be a boon for the people of southern districts, it will be immensely useful for students, researchers. teachers and general public. There will be 1,20,000 Tamil books, 22,500 English books, 6,000 e-books etc. The Kalaignar Memorial Library in Madurai will be opened on June 3rd 2023,” Minister Mr.E.V.Velu told reporters here today after inspecting the library building works.
When Mr.Karunanidhi was Chief Minister, the birth centenary year of Anna was celebrated in a grand manner and Anna Library in Chennai was opened. In the same way, the Madurai library will be inaugurated on June 3rd 2023 marking the commencement of centenary year celebrations of former Chief Minister Kalaignar Karunanidhi.
Book will be ready in library building here in May after the civil works are fully completed by end of April and the libraries department is making arrangements to bring the books meant for Madurai library.
