MADURAI: The much awaited Madurai Metro rail project in Madurai city will have four underground rail stations in the city in the temple area of five kilometers and 14 elevated stations for metro rail which is proposed from Othakadai to Tirumangalam. The route map for Madurai Metro rail was already done and feasibility report gets prepared for Madurai Metro train in the city. The budget of Tamil Nadu for 2023-24 had an important announcement about 31 kms Madurai Metro project.
This was informed to media reporters at a press meet here on April 6th 2023 by Mr.M.A.Siddique, Managing Director of Chennai Metro Rail, who addressed a stakeholders meeting with officials from various departments for executing the Madurai Metro railway project.
“The Detailed Project Report getting ready and consultant appointed. Based on feasibility report. the Madurai Metro rail project will have totally 18 stations in the route, out of which 14 will be elevated stations and four will be underground stations in the Othakadai to Tirumangalam stretch of Madurai Metro rail corridor project. Near temple, we will have underground stations covering five kilometres. We hope to start the Madurai Metro rail corridor project soon. In today’s meeting in Madurai, we have discussed about the DPR work in which all concerned officers participated. The report will be sent to the Central government and it will take shape in June 2024,” Mr.Siddique told reporters in Madurai today- on April 6th 2023.
A preliminary study was done for Madurai Metro rail project and the metro train will have 3 bogeys/coaches in a single train to start with. Among those who were present at this important meeting were Madurai District Collector Dr.S.Aneesh Sekhar, Madurai Corporation Commissioner Mr.Simranjeet Singh and IAS officer Mr.Saravanan besides officials from various departments.
