MADURAI: The sprawling campus of American College in Madurai has sent out a cool message on April 1st 2023 by taking up a green mission saying ‘April Fool to April Cool’. Thanks to the initiative taken by Rotary Club of Madurai West, American College and Pasumai Nanbargal, the hot day today saw saplings in great demand like hot cakes.
Dr.M.Davamani Christober, Principal and Secretary of American College, had led the April Cool drive in the campus by planting saplings of different varieties in the campus along with members of Rotary Club of Madurai West and Pasumai Nanbargal.
“Today is a significant day because 1st April is the birthday of Kenyan conservationist and environmental activist Wangari Maathai. She is an inspiration for green mission in the world. Our college is doing a lot for increasing the green cover in our campus through Green Management Program. There are 99 varieties of plants in our college campus and I am personally giving lot of importance to have more trees for the past 12 years and today’s April Fool to April Cool is a part of our green commitment,” Principal Dr.Davamani Christober told reporters after planting a few saplings of banyan and other varieties.
Mr.L.Ramanathan, president, Rotary Club of Madurai West and Mr.Pon Kumar, club secretary have said that the objective of ‘April Fool to April Cool’ is to create public awareness especially among students about the importance of plants and trees for environment protection.
