MADURAI: Former Vice-Chancellor of Anna University Prof.Dr.E.Balagurusamy has today appealed to the government, universities and academic fraternity to put more focus on technology development, manufacturing and research.

“India had either missed the earlier industrial revolutions or it did not fully benefit it to become a developed country. We did not do much for application of technology, even after 75 years of Independence, our country’s socio-economic indicators are very bad because India missed the industrial revolution. Now is the time for our governments and academia to concentrate more on innovation and research at a high level, and see that technology is applied for the benefit of common man,” he said in his frank expression of thoughts while speaking at the inauguration of an international seminar on ‘Recent Trends in Computing Intelligence and and Industry 4.0’, which was organized by Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College at Pasumalai in Madurai on March 24th 2023.

WATER ON MOON, BUT NO DRINKING WATER:

Stating that China had well utilized technology and innovations by putting emphasis on real applications, Prof.Dr.E.Balagurusamy had stressed that it is time for us to do a complete reality check and not just giving slogans.

“In the last 40 years, nothing much had happened for technology and manufacturing in our country. India is still hunger capital, nearly 80 crores of people in India are waiting for free rice being given by Modi government. Is it not a shame? See, giving rice is a welcome move but think of the fact that two thirds of people are waiting for free rice from Government of India. On the one side we say we are searching for water on the Moon, but the fact is there is no drinking water here for our people. So, I appeal to all stakeholders to steer a great fourth industrial revolution and develop technology for India to be a developed nation. Things like Artificial Intelligence, data science, block chain technology etc play a significant role,” Dr.Balagurusamy, who is the chairman of EBG Foundation in Coimbatore and a former Member of UPSC, has said.
