MADURAI: A teaching faculty in the History Department of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) Dr.J.Shanmuga Raja was physically assaulted and attacked right inside the classroom at around 12.30 pm today in the university campus here- on 16th February 2023.
Sources told ‘LotusTimes’ website that a group of about 10 persons had entered into the history department and started shouting ‘Where is Shanmugaraja, where is Shanmugaraja…..’ and started going to history department classrooms. Dr.J.Shanmuga Raja is an assistant professor in MKU History Department.
When this incident took place at around 12.25 pm today -16th February 2023, the students of history department got panicked and rushed towards the history department room of Dr.Shanmuga Raja, and sources said that the gang had started using foul and abusive language against him, before they started physically attacking him.
University staff told ‘LotusTimes’ at around 3 pm that the victim Dr.J.Shanmuga Raja was helped and rescued by a group of students and staff, and later the incident was reported as a complaint to MKU Registrar in-charge Prof.Dr.Sadasivam.
“There is a suspicion about the entry of outside gang into the MKU, there are videos taken by some persons when this attack and assault incident took place in our campus today. The victim Dr.Shanmuga Raja was not allowed to speak at all. He was just shouting for help. We hope there will be a quick enquiry and investigation into the incident and protect our faculty member,” sources in teaching and non-teaching departments of MKU have appealed while alerting the ‘LotusTimes’ media website immediately after the incident.
