MADURAI: Students of various Government, corporation and aided schools have got an opportunity to visit the famous rocket launch centre of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on February 13th 2023 thanks to the social responsibility gesture of Queen Mira International School (QMIS) in Madurai.

Dr.C.Chandran, chairman of QMIS along with school managing director Mr.Abinath Chandran and academic director Ms.Sujatha Guptan have addressed a press conference here today to give details about the February 13th Sriharikota visit for students.

“Our teachers and staff are accompanying the students. Queen Mira School always gave priority for social causes and this trip to ISRO center will provide a chance for students of government schools, corporation schools, aided schools to see rocket station and launchpad,” QMIS Chairman Dr.C.Chandran told reporters at the press meet held in Madurai on 4th February 2023.

‘THE LITTLE EMPERORS’:

Mr.Abinath Chandran has said that QMIS has always given thrust to ‘Happy Schooling’ for children and the Sriharikota tour has been arranged to students who won in inter-school competitions conducted in last November under the banner ‘The Little Emperors’.

“This is an important decision taken by our school because it is not just for our QMIS students. Instead of giving cash prizes to students who won first prize in different events of inter-school competitions, we wanted to do something that will be useful and exciting to them. It will be a trip for inspiration and aspiration. Our thanks to ISRO Deputy Director Dr.R.Venkatraman who held and guided us for obtaining all necessary approvals from ISRO administration. We also thank Dr.R.Thiruchenthuran who is the founder of Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam Vision 2020 for his support. We are happy because as a private school, we are taking students of government and corporation schools to this important place Sriharikota,” Mr.Abinath Chandran has said.

Academic director Ms.Sujatha Guptan informed that nearly 6,000 students from seven districts participated in the eighth edition of ‘The Little Emperors’ inter-school competitions conducted by QMIS and those who are now going to see the ISRO center will have a huge learning experience. The school management has thanked its alumni who came forward to support this students’ tour.

As a precursor to ISRO trip, the school also created a ‘space anthem’ saluting space scientists and to motivate school children. A lyrical video titled ‘Vanathai Vellaporom’ penned by Madhan Karky and music scored by Jerard Felix was launched by the school on 13th January 2023.
