MADURAI: The Lions Clubs International District 324-B and Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry have started a mega e-waste collection drive from Madurai today- on 30th January 2023-by collecting various electronic and electrical waste items in a bid create public awareness for environment protection.
This e-waste drive has been taken up as a massive project across the country by the Lions Clubs and in Madurai Lions District 324-B is doing it in association with TN Chamber. The e-waste collection was started in Madurai today at Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce in the presence of chamber president Dr.N.Jegatheesan, Past District Governor of Lions District 324-B Ln.R.Monikantan and others from the chamber and Lions Clubs.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr.Jegatheesan has said that e-waste leads to a dangerous situation for environment and health. “We must create public awareness and start collecting e-waste from offices and homes. This is important for the sake of future generations. E-waste management is very important and it is a laudable effort by the Lions Clubs to have started this e-waste collection,” he added.
Ln.Monikantan has said that the Lions Clubs International in India has entered into an agreement with Hindustan e-waste Management Company and it will do various stages of segregation after collecting devices at various points. In Madurai, the Lions Clubs are collecting the e-waste items at TN Chamber and at Union Club.
“We are doing this exercise till 13th February 13th in Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Sivaganga etc. We thanks the Tamil Nadu Chamber for its support to this service project,” Mr.Monikantan said and added that the e-waste collection drive began on 13th January and is going on in full pace across the country. Mr.J.Selvam, secretary of TN Chamber of Commerce, Mr.Dhanapal, Lions district chairman for e-waste management, Mr.Velmurugan, Lions cabinet secretary and others were present at the launch of e-waste collection drive in Madurai today.
LIST OF E-WASTE ITEMS:
The e-waste items being collected in this drive through a call saying ‘Dump or Donate’ include CCTV cameras, desktops, electric meter, graphics card, audio cassettes, hard disk, tape recorder, electronic waste, electrical waste, keyboard mouse, laptops, old TVs, stabilizer etc besides all other electronic and electrical items.
