MADURAI: In the wake of several allegations of corruption and ongoing court cases against the present Principal and Secretary of the prestigious American College in Madurai Dr.M.Davamani Christober, a public appeal was made today to the Madurai Bishop to ‘Save American College’ because only the Church can salvage the situation and Bishop is the leader of Christian community.
This appeal came from former Principal and Secretary of American College Dr.T.Chinnaraj Joseph Jaikumar who said that the Bishop of Madurai can put moral pressure to make the present Principal to step down owing to the series of charges against him. (Rt.Rev.Dr.Prince Jeyasingh Prabhaharan is the Bishop of Madurai Ramnad Diocese of the Church of South India. He is the president of Governing Council of the American College).
“The American College in Madurai has now been taken over by the Church of South India. When there is a open talk and when there are court cases alleging that everything happens only with corruption in this great higher education institution, who else can save our prestigious American College? When faculty and non-teaching staff are afraid of talking about this issue of corruption and other matters, the only hope is the Bishop because he is the president of college governing council and the Church people are exercising powers as part of governing council. The Bishop should not tolerate nepotism because American College belongs to the Church,” Prof.T.Chinnaraj Joseph Jaikumar sas appealed while speaking to ‘LotusTimes’ website www.lotustimes.org in Madurai on January 19th 2023.
He was responding to questions about alleged corruption in appointments and admissions in the American College and the court cases against the present incumbent Principal and Secretary Dr.M.Davamani Christober.
“When I was fighting for the college’s rights and justice more than a decade back, I was told that the American College belongs to the Church. So, I am making this appeal to the Bishop and governing council members of the college governing council as many of them are nominated by the Church. If the Bishop wants, he can bring moral pressure on the present Principal to step down because he completed 10 years as Principal. The Bishop can salvage the college reputation by asking current Principal Dr.Davamani Christober to step down immediately and save the image of this historic iconic higher education institution,” Prof.Chinnaraj Joseph Jaikumar has appealed from Madurai today.
