MADURAI: The School of Linguistics and Communication-Department of Communication of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here had organized ‘Kadambu Tree Watching’ – Nature Media programme on December 23rd 2022 in association with ‘Thirunagar Pakkam’.
This special program, which was an initiative to stress upon Madurai Eco heritage of ‘Kadamba’ tree (Mitragyna Parvifolia) and the action plan required for future, took place under the Kadambu tree in Kadamboorani, outside the MKU campus here.
Prof.J.Kumar, MKU Vice-Chancellor, had presided over this Kadambu tree watching session and he had exhorted the nature lovers and Kadamba enthusiasts to create more awareness about these trees through public participation and that the MKU is taking several steps to grow more number of Kadamba tree cover in the university campus and varsity land.
Prof.M.Sivakumar, Registrar in-charge of MKU, had delivered special addrees while Dr.S.Nagarathinam, Syndicate Member and Professor and Head of Department of Communication, had welcomed the gathering and gave an outline on actions for future for Kadambu trees.
The nature media program had given awareness message about Kadamba trees as the university had invited a few persons and subject experts to speak about its significance and they include Mrs.Sivakami Dharmar, president, Konkar Puliyankulam panchayat (Thirumangalam Panchayat Union), Mr.Vishwanath, president and activist, Thirunagar Pakkam-Madurai, Dr.G.Sridevi, assistant professor, Department of Plant Biotechnology-MKU, Dr.S.Baburaj, associate professor (Rtd)-Thiagarajar College, Mr.N.Karthikeyan, author, Narunkadambu Madurai, Dr.U.Ramesh, assistant professor and Head in-charge, Department of Molecular Biology-MKU, and Dr.S.B.Anand, assistant professor, School of Biotechnology-MKU.
