MADURAI: Some doubts have been raised about the genuineness of the ‘Doctorate’ Ph.D awarded to a few candidates in Madurai region in the last five years because there are concerns and also allegations that getting a Ph.D became easy in some colleges in Madurai region since there are serious doubts about the alleged nexus between PG research centres of a few affiliated colleges and staff of universities in Madurai region.
The increasing number of Ph.Ds in some subjects has also established the doubts, sources said.
“There are doubts about some of the ‘doctorates’ who received Ph.D in the last seven/ eight years in Madurai region. Those who found NET exam as tough went through a route that made it easy for them to get the Ph.D. In This route, there is a package that gives Ph.D research thesis, Ph.D. guide, examiners and viva that suits the candidate. There are allegations and very strong doubts about the nexus between the Ph.D mediator and research section in universities……These doubts of NEXUS/ TIE-UP/ CORRUPTION AND Ph.D PACKAGE are more in commerce, management studies, English, humanities-social sciences. There are ‘GHOST WRITERS’ in and around Madurai and they are giving the CUT & PASTE thesis to our research scholars,” a few senior have alleged while talking to ‘LotusTimes’ website www.lotustimes.org – in Madurai on December 20th 2022.
Sources said that the doubts about a few recent ‘Doctorates’ in Madurai region are coming because of the ‘links’ between research departments of colleges and the universities’ research sections.
“CLOSE CONNECTIONS ARE THERE BETWEEN THE Ph.D candidate, his GUIDE and the research section in universities…..We have doubts that there are ‘DEAL MAKERS’ for Ph.D in Madurai because VIVA seems to be a formality and a ceremony. The guide, the research scholar Ph.D candidate and the research section in university must be under scanner. Rules of viva notification dates must be followed in university…..THE EXAMINERS MUST BE PROPER….HOW CAN THE GUIDE BE A Ph.D EXAMINER? We need some rigid rules for Ph.D candidates and their guides. HOPE THE UGC and Tamil Nadu Government/ universities will implement the rules and get rid of GHOST WRITERS for Ph.D thesis,” some senior professors and academicians told ‘LotusTimes’ in Madurai today- on 20th December 2022.
