
MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association has made an appeal from Madurai today- on 15th December 2022- urging the Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin and the State government to withdraw the G.O.Ms.37 Environment and Forests dt 05-06-2022 that is preventing the use of primary plastic bag for essential food products like rice, pulses, flour, wheat, millet, masala products and masala powders.
A press statement for this appeal was issued from Madurai today urging the Chief Minister Mr.M.K.Stalin, the Minister and environment department secretary.
“We request the Tamil Nadu State government to withdraw the ban on use of use of primary plastic bag for essential food products…We also request the State government to renew the environment department license for manufacturing plastic bags meant for primary packaging. The MULTI LAYER primary plastic packing for food products must be allowed. Please lift the ban, because the Central government has not banned the multi-layer packaging materials. Hence our appeal to the Tamil Nadu State government to withdraw G.O. No.37, and allow the use of multi layer packaging materials and also renew the license for manufacturers ,” the appeal from Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association has said through a press statement signed by association president S.V.S.S.VelShankar, association honorary secretary S.Sai Subramaniam and S.P.Jeyapragasam, honorary advisor.
The licenses are not renewed after 2020 and hence we are making this appeal, we are appealing to the Tamil Nadu State government to consider our request and also hold a consultation meeting with us with the members of our association, the press release had added.
