MADURAI: The construction works of new Pamban rail bridge will be over in March 2023 and is expected to be ready for rail traffic, a press release received from the Southern Railway’s Madurai Division here on 3rd December 2022 has informed.
This sea bridge of the railway was constructed and opened in the year 1914 and is a railway marvel that connects Mandapam and Rameswaram. The Railway Ministry has taken up this construction project for a new Pamban rail bridge, for a distance of 2.05 kms at a cost of Rs.535 crores.
“So far, 84 per cent of this rail bridge construction works were completed and 101 pillars were built in the sea for the bridge purpose. Remaining works are being fast expedited to complete the entire works and will be fully ready in March 2023,” the railway press release added giving details about the progress of works.
