MADURAI: Teachers’ association MUTA will soon put more focus on the issues of teaching and non-teaching staff who are working in self-financing colleges/ self-financing courses in government aided colleges and work for the welfare of teachers in self-financing colleges also. It will also take up students’ issues such as high fees being collected for self-financing courses, the ‘indifferent’ attitude of managements in some colleges in southern districts of Tamil Nadu and raise voice on various matters in private colleges for the benefit of teaching fraternity.

A large number of members had attended the zonal conference of MUTA Zone I and II, held in Yadava College in Madurai on December 3rd 2022 Saturday. Senior members of MUTA had spoken about the history, objectives, achievements and the mission for which the Madurai Kamaraj, Manonmaniam Sundaranar, Mother Teresa and Alagappa University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) has been working for the past 50 years ever since it was registered in 1972.

TO QUESTION EVERYTHING FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS:

MUTA veterans Prof.P.Vijayakumar and Prof.S.Vivekanandan have given a call to the association members to expand their role of functioning by taking up the problems of self-financing colleges staff also since the number of SF courses is increasing rapidly and teachers of self-financing courses/colleges need support in a big way.

“We have to expand our role, we have to change our tactics and strategy in tune with the times because the challenges are increasing due to NEP etc. As the number of self-financing courses teachers is increasing, we must take up the issues of self-financing staff and students also. Involve them and strengthen our mission. Put focus on exorbitant fees being collected for self-financing courses because the poor students are getting affected and their families cannot afford to pay huge fees,”Prof.Vivekanandan has said while addressing the MUTA members here in Madurai today.

Prof.Vijayakumar had stressed that MUTA has been successful for the past 50 years in addressing higher education issues and teachers’ welfare only due to the sacrifices and selfless service made by its several members.

Among those who spoke at the MUTA 50 zonal conference today include MUTA president S.Radhakrishnan, MUTA general secretary M.Nagarajan, former MUTA president R.Manoharan, MUTA treasurer A.T.Senthamaraikannan, Yadava College Principal in-charge Dr.M.Narayanan and Umayavalli.

MUTA’s zonal office-bearers from Zone 1 and 2 including Prof.A.Wilson Baskar, Periyasamy Raja, Rameshraj, Robert Dhileepan and Fermin Angelo were among those who spoke. Important resolutions were passed.
