MADURAI: The Vice-Chancellor’s bungalow in Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) campus in Madurai has become a talking point as several staff members from teaching and non-teaching departments have raised doubts on who is working in the VC bungalow as housekeeping and maintenance staff.

“Our Vice-Chancellor Prof.J.Kumar had already sacked 136 temporary staff / casual labour / consolidated salary employees immediately after he assumed charge as VC early this year. But, we have come to know that he had retained 5 of them to work in his residence. Their salary is being paid from various accounts of the university like NSS Dept account etc. When he had sacked them, how can he retain a couple of them for his personal residence works. It is a violation because our VC had sacked 136 CPCLR employees stating that they are excess in numbers. Now, how can he retain just four or five of those sacked workers for the Vice-Chancellor’s residence work,” sources in the MKU told ‘LotusTimes’ www.lotustimes.org news website here in Madurai today- on 28th November 2022.

The monthly salary for these VC residence workers is getting paid out of funds from different accounts while he had actually sacked 136 temporary CLR workers after taking charge this year. “Now we want to know, why the VC had retained select workers for his residence and is it justified to retain a couple of them when 136 workers were sacked in one stroke. On what basis, these five persons are working? Who is paying them and from where? We want to know the full details about the retained workers because it was our VC who sacked them from work,” said MKU non-teaching staff workers in the university while talking to ‘LotusTimes’ in Madurai today.
