MADURAI: The Joint Action Council of College Teachers (JAC), Tamil Nadu, has today announced a State-wide agitation and protests starting from October 11th 2022 demanding the DMK Government to implement the G.O. issued for promotions of college teachers working in Government colleges and government aided colleges in Tamil Nadu.

Addressing a pressmeet in Madurai on 8th October 2022, the JAC convener Dr.M.Nagarajan has flayed the State government for not implementing the G.O MS No.5 which was issued through Higher Education Department by the previous AIADMK government in January 2021.

“The G.O. related to college teachers’ promotions is not implemented till date. It is a matter of shame that our college teachers had to hold protests demanding the implementation of a G.O. which was already issued. Because of this delay in giving time bound promotions and delay in implementing Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) , nearly 10,000 college teachers are affected in Tamil Nadu. We are demanding the State government, Higher Education Department and the Directorate of Collegiate Education to take quick steps for implementing the G.O. issued on 11th January 2021,” the JAC office-bearers told reporters in Madurai today.

PROTESTS AND STRUGGLE:

On October 11th 2022, there will be demonstrations in front of all government and aided colleges in the State. This will be followed by demonstrations and protests before all the offices of collegiate education RJDs in Tamil Nadu, and on October 30th massive protests will be held simultaneously at different places including Chennai, Madurai, Tiruchi, Coimbatore etc, the JAC Tamil Nadu Convener Dr.M.Nagarajan has said at the press meet in Madurai today.

JAC secretary Dr.M.Krishnaraj and JAC treasurer Dr.A.Gopalakrishnan along with senior office-bearers Dr.Gandhiraj (AUT), V.Ravi of AIFUCTO and S,Suresh (TNGCTA) have urged the present DMK government to understand the plight of college teachers because they are missing the promotions because of delay in implementing the G.O. by the Tamil Nadu’s Higher Education Department.

“The Assembly session is going to start soon and we will step up our struggle during the assembly session period this month. There are lot of issues pertaining to college teachers which must be addressed immediately. For instance, transfer counselling for government college teachers is not being conducted by the DMK government. The corruption taking place in the offices of Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education in the State is a matter of grave concern,” the JAC office-bearers said speaking to reporters in Madurai on 8th October 2022.

The Joint Action Council of College Teachers (JAC), Tamil Nadu, includes Association of University Teachers (AUT), Tamil Nadu Government College Teachers Association and MUTA.
