MADURAI: The Department of Sociology and UPSC Study Circle of Lady Doak College in Madurai organized a guest lecture on an important topic social justice by inviting Dr.Thamizhachi Thangapandian Member of Parliament (MP of Chennai South Lok Sabha constituency) on October 3rd 2022, which was attended by undergraduate students of different streams.
She spoke about how fighting for one’s rights became part of history, how the right to property was first established in Tamil Nadu as a law for women, how change happens after first taking care of themselves as women, families and then society at large.
Dr.Thamizhachi Thangapandian used her poetic narrative to speak about Solomon and how wisdom is the most after gift, and at the same time she had explained to the Lady Doak College students about how knowledge and wisdom are different. “The importance of equality, self-respect and raising our voice to demand social justice were emphasized in her lecture and interactive session. She had encouraged the students to engage with society and common people at grassroot level, at a level possible to them, and thereby attempt for process of change and transformation, and how change happens with us first,” a press release received from the Lady Doak College here yesterday has said.
Dr.Christianna Singh, Principal and Secretary of Lady Doak College- Madurai and Ms.V.Dhanalakshmi, Head of Social Sciences Department, spoke about the importance of this lecture. Dr.Lt.Sangara Nachiar proposed a vote of thanks.
