MADURAI: An earnest appeal to drop the idea of power tariff revision was made to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) and the tariff hike proposal was strongly opposed here today – on August 18th 2022- by the Madurai District Tiny & Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA). It has strongly opposed the TANGEDCO proposal to hike the EB tariff and urged the Tamil Nadu Government to reconsider the tariff increase proposal by TANGEDCO. A detailed representation was submitted to the TNERC members at a public hearing held in Madurai today by MADITSSIA president Mr.M.S.Sampath and and his team of office-bearers.

It has urged the TNERC to reduce fixed charges amount, to withdraw the peak hours charge, to reconsider the hike of per unit tariff amount and to reconsider the proposed percentage of 6% increase per annum for electricity charges. “It is our request to reconsider the tariff increase proposal for HT and LT category industries in Tamil Nadu. We strongly oppose the proposed revision with reasoning and appeal that is based on valid points. If power tariff goes up as per this proposal, lakhs if MSMEs will be burdened and they will not be able to run. It therefore leads to closure of micro small and medium enterprises……..as we cannot bear this huge EB cost burden,” Mr.M.S.Sampath has said in the representation submitted in Madurai today at the TNERC public hearing where Mr.Sampath along with MADITSSIA secretary Rm.Lakshminarayanan, joint secretary Mr.P.J.Bansidhar and treasurer Mr.M.Chandrasekaran had given a strong reasoning for his appeal to the Tamil Nadu government.
