MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu BJP is going to be very cautious while appointing a new district president for the Madurai City unit of the party after district president Dr.P.Saravanan had suddenly quit the party in a late night development on 13th August 2022.
Reliable party sources told ‘LotusTimes’ news website www.lotustimes.org today evening on 14th August that the party cadres and office-bearers of the Madurai Urban district unit are very particular that the State BJP leadership should be careful in choosing the next district president for Madurai Urban district of the BJP because “there is a strong feeling that freshers who joined the BJP only recently should not be given a plum post like district president because the Madurai city party functionaries are clear that a Dr.Saravanan type of thing should not happen again for Madurai.”
Tamil Nadu BJP State Organisational general secretary Mr.Kesava Vinayagam had held an emergency meeting in Madurai today – on 14th August 2022- at the part office near Bibikulam in Madurai city within hours after Dr.P.Saravanan had quit the part and joined the DMK following the chappal hurling incident that took place at Madurai airport on 13th August 2022 and the tension that prevailed in that incident when Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Dr.P.T.R.Palanivel Thiagarajan arrived there at the airport yesterday.
When contacted by ‘LotusTimes’ today, the Tamil Nadu BJP State general secretary Prof.Dr.R.Srinivasan has said that there is a strong feeling among the party workers in Madurai that the State leadership should be cautious in selecting the next district president for Madurai City because the party cadres in Madurai want that “newcomers” or “freshers” must have completed atleast six months in the party after coming from other parties like the AIADMK or the DMK or any other party.
A past district president of Madurai Urban district Mr.Saseeraman has said that the Madurai City unit of the BJP will have a new district president within two or three days and “the meetings are already on for this.”
Prof.Srinivasan has said that the ‘Madurai experiment’ has failed for the BJP in Madurai city because Dr.P.Saravanan who joined the BJP after quitting the DMK was immediately given the district president post and hence “FRESHERS INTO THE BJP IN MADURAI should not be made as district president in the larger interest of the party.
Several party functionaries in Madurai told our website today that the district level office-bearers are telling the State president Mr.Annamalai and to Mr.Kesava Vinayagam that a person who has been loyal and working for the BJP in Madurai for many years should be made as district president.
