Madurai Gandhi Museum celebrates India @75; honours freedom fighters to mark Quit India on August 9th

MADURAI: The famous Gandhi Memorial Museum in Madurai had organized a special event in Madurai on August 9th 2022 to celebrate and commemorate the 75 years of Independence which is being celebrated across the country as ‘Azadi Ka Amrit AMahotsav’. The event also recalled the great Quit India Movement of August 9th which was a clarion call for the people of India for country’s independence from the British.

Justice G.R.Swaminathan, Judge of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, had honoured the freedom fighters with ‘Khadi’ shawls at the function organized in the Gandhi Museum in Madurai on 9th August 2022. Mr.N.M.R.K.Jawahar Babu, museum vice-president, presided over the freedom fighters’ honouring function while freedom fighter Shri. K.Lakshmi Kanthan Bharathi (Retired IAS), had given certificates and prizes to students who won the competitions held to mark the occasion.

Prof.Dr.J.Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU), had honoured the freedom fighters. Mr.M.Senthilkumar, Madurai Gandhi Memorial Museum treasurer, welcomed the gathering while Mr.K.R.Nanda Rao, museum secretary, gave the introductory speech. Mr.R.Natarajan, senior officer of the Gandhi Museum in Madurai, proposed a vote of thanks. Senior government officials including Mr.T.Arunraj from Tiruchi, Mr.Velusamy from the Tamil Research Foundation and others spoke. Museum committee members including Mr.T.S.R.Venkataramana, Mr.N.Ramalingam, research officer Mr.R.Devadoss and family members of freedom fighters were among those present.
