MADURAI: The vacancies in the Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) Syndicate will be filled up soon and steps have been initiated in this regard, Vice-Chancellor Prof.Dr.J.Kumar has said here on 5th August 2022. In an informal chat with reporters after the MKU Academic Council meeting in the university campus here today, he said that the varsity administration is taking steps to fill up the Syndicate vacancies. Members from the MKU Academic Council and Senate will have to be elected to the Syndicate.

Earlier, in the AC meeting, this issue was raised by member Mr.Joseph Velankanni of Youth Welfare Department who urged the Vice-Chancellor to quickly complete the election process to the Syndicate at the earliest possible for better administration. “Members from Academic Council and Senate will have to be elected to the Syndicate. This issue was raised by me in the previous meeting also because there is no representation from AC and Senate in the MKU Syndicate at the moment,” Mr.Joseph Velankanni said.

Responding to the member’s query, the Vice-Chancellor Prof.Dr.J.Kumar has said that he had seen the Action Taken Report of the previous academic council meeting held in March 2022 ‘and it is under process. It will take some time.’

The need to have a regular full-time Registrar, Dean and Controller of Examinations for smooth functioning of the university was also raised in the AC meeting today, but the VC said that academic council meeting is only for academic matters and hence this topic cannot be discussed in AC meeting. This was the first academic council meeting chaired by Prof.Dr.J.Kumar after he assumed charge as MKU Vice-Chancellor on 1st April 2022.

Today’s academic council meeting had approved several important academic matters. Prof.Dr.M.Sivakumar, MKU Registrar in-charge and senior officers of the university were present during the Academic Council meeting on August 5th 2022.
