MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has resumed the construction work of the proposed electric hi-tech gasifier crematorium in Madurai and it has decided to complete the project within three months period, Mr.N.Jegatheesan, TN Chamber president, has said in a press statement here on 30th June 2022. This crematorium is coming up in Journalists Nagar situated in Madurai Corporation Zone-2, Ward 27-Pudukulam Tank, in Madurai city.
Construction work was resumed following the orders of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court which has dismissed the writ petitions filed in the court objecting to the construction of an electric gasifier at the site where the TN Chamber had started the work.
As in important public service initiative, the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has proposed to set up an electric hi-tech gasifier crematorium at its own cost, in an area of about 52 cents of the southern side of the 30 feet road near Journalists Nagar Press Colony in Corporation Zone-2 Ward 27, with all facilities including a hall to perform last rites to the body of the deceased, visitors hall, adequate water facilities, modern toilets, vehicle parking etc.
The TN Chamber had entered into a MoU with the Madurai Corporation for executing the project and for proposed maintenance of the said crematorium and had already commenced the buildings construction work last year. However, the construction work had to be stopped midway due to a writ petition filed in the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court by the president of Karpaga Nagarathar Sangham and one Mr.K.N.Subramanian who lives in the area, against the construction of electric gasifier crematorium at this place.
“After hearing the arguments of both sides, the Honourable Court had dismissed the cases and passed on order directing the chamber (respondent) to immediately restart the construction work of the electric crematorium in Journalists’ Nagar in Madurai city- Corporation Zone 2 Ward 27. We have decided to complete the project within a period of three months,” TN Chamber president Mr.N.Jegatheesan has said in his press release issued here on 30th June 2022.
