PTR presented growth budget with many welcome announcements: TN Foodgrains Merchants Association

MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association has welcomed several allocations and announcements made in the State budget for the year 2022-23, which was presented by Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Mr.P.T.R.Palanivel Thiagarajan, in the Assembly today- technically driver e-budget, on 18th March 2022.

Mr.S.P.Jeyapragasam, association president, in a press statement issued from Madurai has said that the move to reduce revenue deficit by Rs.7,000 crores from 4.61% to 3.80% is growth indicated. The allocation of Rs.2,787 crores towards water resources management by putting focus on desilting / upgrading of channels, reservoirs and check dams is a welcoming one along with Rs.1,064 crore allocated for 64 dams upgradation.

“The proposed Rs.7,336 crore allocation for water resource management would help the agricultural activity and agri sector. It will have a positive impact. Announcement in the State budget on setting up of 20 clusters will help micro and small scale sector for growth. The toys cluster in Madurai will help a lot,” he added.

The TN Foodgrains Merchants Association has also welcomed Finance Minister’s announcement to set up new industrial parks in Coimbatore, Vellore and Madurai. The other highlights of the Tamil Nadu State budget which were welcomed by the Foodgrains Merchants Association include Rs.1,200 crores allocation for Chennai-Kanniyakumari industrial corridor, Rs.916 crores allocated for micro, small and medium sectors, focus to develop tourism sector with focus given to Madurai, urban development proposals for constructing flyover bridges across Tamil Nadu and setting up of 500 parks in the State.

Mr.Jeyapragasam has welcomed the proposal to set up a new botanical garden in Chennai with Rs.300 crores and has appealed that a similar botanical garden could be set up in Madurai also because it is the capital of southern districts in Tamil Nadu.
