MADURAI: Tamil Nadu BJP State president Mr.K.Annamalai has today demanded that the Stalin government should form a one-man enquiry commission to be headed by a retired judge for fully probing into the allegations of irregularities in awarding the Rs.4,442 crore Ennore power project to BGR Energy Systems by violating the tender norms.

“A full enquiry has to be done in awarding this deal to BGR Energy Systems. The Tamil Nadu government should appoint a one-man commission to be headed by a retired judge. BGR is a loss making company with no financial strength to execute such a massive expansion project of Ennore Thermal Power Station. When public sector BHEL is there which had also bid for the project, why did the DMK government award the project to BGR? I am waiting for a reply on why the TANGEDCO gave this power project deal to BGR. The SEBI investigation too must be done in this because BGR is a listed company,” Mr.Annamalai said while addressing a press conference in Madurai on 17th March 2022.

The BJP State president had alleged irregularities in the BGR deal by giving details about several dates of environmental clearances. “This Ennore power project expansion project was given to BGR Energy Systems only to favour the company. When BHEL is there, why BGR company was chosen? DMK became a corporate government. The clarification given by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister is not correct and hence the BJP is demanding a full probe into this deal,” he added.

Mr.Annamalai had alleged that there are several doubts of corruption in this Tangedco-BGR deal because a loss-making company was given a major project tender and the share price of BGR in the stock exchange too went up sharply with some insider information. “Only the State government can investigate into the power project deals. So, we are demanding a thorough investigation. If the DMK or the State government says says they will file a case against me and a defamation case, I am ready to go to jail also. My demand is that the BGR Energy Systems’ cash flow statement must be looked into and a parallel SEBI investigation also must be done,” the BJP State president Mr.Annamalai has demanded in the press conference today and he reiterated that how can a loss making company be given a huge contract of Ennore power plant.
