MADURAI: The Madurai Division of Southern Railway has earned a revenue of Rs.510 crores till December 2021 in this financial year as against Rs.259.57 crores during the corresponding period last year, Divisional Railway Manager Mr.Padmanabhan Ananth has informed here today. The division has generated a revnue of Rs.280.80 crore in passenger traffic, Rs.191.44 crore in goods traffic and Rs.38.11 crore in other coaching and sundries up to December 2021. He said this after unfurling the national flag in army dress at the 73rd Republic Day celebrations of Southern Railway Madurai Division in Madurai on 26th January 2022. (He was in army dress being a colonel in territorial army and commanding officer of railway engineers regiment-Moulali- Secunderabad).
The DRM in his speech said that the S.Rly Madurai Division has loaded 1.7558 million tonnes upto December 2021 as against the loading of 1.6999 million tonnes last year. The division has transported 848 tractors till now. He added that freight traffic improvement measures are being given a big boost such as ‘station to station’ agreement with cement manufacturer for loading gypsum and limestone.
Mr.Ananth said that contract has been awarded for advertisement on the mirrors of reserved coaches of some trains for a period of one year and it will generate a revenue of Rs.3.66 lakhs. Passenger amenities are being improved in stations in Madurai division. Among those railway officials present at the Republic Day celebrations include ADRM Mr.Thanneeru Ramesh Babu, assistant security officer Mr.R.Subash and assistant personnel officer Mr.G.Ramakrishnan.
