Madurai Railway Division gets new freight traffic with tyres, water drums, eggs etc

MADURAI: Thanks to the efforts of its Business Development Unit (BDU), the Madurai Division of Southern Railway is increasing its freight traffic by steadily capturing new traffic movement. The latest in its freight movement traffic is of tyres, traditional native drugs (naattu marunthugal), empty water drums and chicken eggs which were transported through rail wagons from here.

A press release from Southern Railway Madurai Division here today- on 12th June 2021 Saturday- had informed that 210 tonnes of tyres, eight tonnes of country drugs and four tonnes of empty water drums were loaded in 25 rail wagons and sent from Kudal Nagar in Madurai to Mirzapur Bachhad in Haryana. “Through this freight booking, Madurai Division fetched Rs.15,50,694. This is a new freight traffic,” the press release added.

Similarly, 23 tonnes of eggs were transported from Dindigul to Kolkata Shalimar by Kanniyakumari-Howrah Weekly Special Train for the last three weeks and this earned Rs.1,80,650 per trip, the railway press release received from Madurai Division here today said.
