MADURAI: The Southern Railway has observed International Level Crossing Awareness Day 2021 today- on 10th June 2021. The International Union of Railways is observing this and the objective is to spread awareness among road users and to avoid serious accidents at manned and unmanned level crossings.
The Madurai Division of Southern Railway had organized a special awareness drive here today to mark the international level crossing awareness day by highlighting the road safety norms to be followed at railway level crossings. Through a mobile vehicle, the awareness messages were taken to the general public by the railway safety wing team of Madurai Division.
Mr.V.R.Lenin, Divisional Railway Manager, Madurai Division-Southern Railway, had flagged off the level crossing safety awareness drive on 10th June 2021. A special team of persons was deputed to create awareness at important traffic junctions, petrol bunks, tollgates etc by distributing pamphlets, a press release from the Madurai Division of Southern Railway had informed here today.
OBSTRUCTION OF DUTIES:
Public message was given about the Railway Act 1989 which clearly states about prevention of obstructing railway servants in their duties. If any person willfully obstructs or prevents railway staff in discharge of duties, it is punishable. Senior railway Divisional Safety official Mr.Manoharan has taken steps to create a larger public awareness about railway level crossings and preventing accidents at level crossings.
