MADURAI: In an important gesture, the Madurai Corporation had last week announced free cremation for one month for those persons who die of COVID-19. On 8th June 2021, the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry had handed over its contribution of Rs.4.5 lakhs to Madurai Corporation Commissioner Mr.S.Visakan here today.
The Madurai Corporation has announced that cremations for the month of June for those who died due to Corona will be done free of charges for the benefit of poor and deserving people. It will be done with the support of sponsors at the crematoriums in Thathaneri and Moolakarai in Madurai. Support of Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Junior Chamber International and Sivaganga District Brick Manufacturers Association is being taken by the corporation for free cremations and these sponsors are bearing the costs.
A press release from the chamber here on 8th June 2021 had informed that TN Chamber president Mr.N.Jegatheesan, had handed over the Rs.4.5 lakhs contribution as chamber’s share to the Madurai Corporation Commissioner Mr.S.Visakan today. (Thathaneri cremation Unit-1 and Unit-2, and Keerathurai electric crematorium).
According to the press release, the total Rs.4.5 lakhs contribution amount came from three sources with each giving Rs.1.5 lakh. They are TEEED Foundation, Jwalaa Equipment and Consultant, Rotary Club of Madurai Midtown Community Trust.
Among those who were present when the contribution money was handed over to the Corporation Commissioner Mr.S.Visakan here today include- Corporation Deputy Commissioner Mrs.Sangeetha, TN Chamber secretary Mr.J.Selvam and chamber treasurer Mr.S.Sridhar, according to the press statement issued by TN Chamber president Dr.N.Jegatheesan here today- on June 8th 2021.
