MADURAI: Students and staff of the Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here and residents of Vadapalanji / Nagamalai Pudukottai area in Madurai are a worried lot because of the removal of four speed-breakers for convoy purpose of Chief Minister Mr.Edappadi K.Palanisami’s visit to Madurai on 6th August 2020.
The Chief Minister Mr.EPS came to Madurai to open a COVID-19 care centre at Vadapalanji near Madurai Kamaraj University. Sources said on 17th August 2020 that four speed breakers on the main road starting from the university quarters gate were removed for CM convoy and they are yet to be restored.
“This is an accident prone area and high speed movement of vehicles. Traffic police know about that. When the CM came to Madurai to open 1,000-bed Corona care facility at Vadapalanji IT Park area recently, the speed-breakers were removed in our MKU area. Since the main road before our university has no speed control now, it is a road safety threat. To save students’ lives in particular, we need immediate action on this issue,” MKU staff members told ‘Lotus Times’ news website here today evening- on 17th August 2020.
Since ‘speed kills’ and slow speed is the advice of traffic police for road safety, the request of MKU staff seems to be an immediate call for urgent action by the Madurai district police to prevent accidents and casualties.
