MADURAI: Thiruparankundram MLA Dr.P.Saravanan today inspected the Madurai Corporation’s solid waste dumping yard at Vellakkal here and enquired about the safety measures for workers involved in garbage clearing works in the city and asked for full details whether medical waste is being dumped there.
On 10th August 2020, the DMK MLA went to Vellakkal garbage dumping site near Avaniapuram in Madurai city and his visit assumes significance because the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court has asked for details from authorities whether medical waste is being dumped at Vellakkal sewage plant site and about the safety measures in place for workers because of COVID-19 crisis.
Madurai Corporation Executive Engineer Mr.Sekar and AE Mr.Selva gave information to the MLA on how solid wste management is being done at Vellakkal dumping site. The MLA was informed that medical waste is not being carried to this garbage dumping yard.
