MADURAI: Dr.P.Mannar Jawahar, former Vice-Chancellor of India’s top university and a well known academician from a humble background who focused extensively on campus placements for students, has observed that the ‘VC post selection process lost its sanctity because of various comments we are hearing these days.’

“Till some years back, the VC selection and appointment used to be a silent affair….and there used to be no Search Committees. The scene was different earlier. But still we have to put confidence because the Governor is there to take care of right selection and merit based VC selection for appointments as vice-chancellors to universities,” Prof.Mannar Jawahar said when asked for his opinion by ‘Lotus Times’ news website from Madurai on 24th July 2020.

His remark assumes significance because the question posed to him was about allegations of money and political influence in appointment of Vice-Chancellors. “There are our Governors who will watch everything. Qualification and experience will count. I have come from a simple background from Madurai region and I thank God for making me VC of Anna University. I do not know about what is happening now,” the Ex-VC of Anna University said.

The interviews for University of Madras Vice-Chancellor is taking place tomorrow- on 28th July 2020- and three names will be recommended for final choice after interviews for 12 shortlisted candidates.
