MADURAI: The ‘Save Higher Education Movement-Tamil Nadu’ has today appealed to all concerned to ensure transparency, integrity, merit, qualification, experience and honesty in the selection process of University of Madras new Vice-Chancellor scheduled for 28th July 2020.
“Authorities must ensure that no political or money or any other powers influence the selection of new VC for Madras University. Only an academically qualified honest candidate should be appointed as Vice-Chancellor….to head this oldest university in Tamil Nadu. We demand the authorities in selection process to publish the marks awarded to 12 shortlisted applicants attending the VC selection interview in the website along with assessment categories,” Dr.R.Murali, State Convener, Save Higher Education Movement-TN, has said in a press statement issued from here on 23rd July 2020.
His appeal is made to the three-member VC Search Committee whose convener is Prof.M.Jagadeesh Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi and members being Dr.P.Ramasamy, former Vice-Chancellor of Alagappa University and Dr.P.Maruthamuthu, former Vice-Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University.
NO TRANSPARENCY:
Prof.Dr.R.Murali had raised doubts about the name of former MKU Vice-Chancellor Dr.Mrs.Kalyani Mathivanan being shortlisted in the list of 12 candidates called for interview by the Search Panel from a total of 177 applicants. “What is the basis of shortlisting? It came to our notice that candidates who were earlier not considered for the post of Vice-Chancellor of other universities have also been shortlisted now. Dr.Kalyani Mathivanan’s appointment as VC of MKU had earlier generated lot of controversy on qualification issue,” the press release here pointed out.
Filled applications by email and one hard copy were sent to Dr.G.Rathinasabapthy who was specified as Nodal Officer for University of Madras VC application process and the email id given was -vcsearchcommittee.unom@gmail.com – and a total of 177 applicants were received by the Search Committee from which 12 were shortlisted and called for interview on 28th July 2020.
