CHENNAI: Teaching faculty members of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here who have been anxiously waiting for their grade pay hike and promotions under Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) will soon hear good news as some of them will get it in about three months from now.
Sources said that the Vice-Chancellor Dr.M.Krishnan is keen to take up CAS matter for the benefit of teaching staff starting from Assistant Professor level, but the Corona lockdown had delayed it because subject experts have to come and carry out the process which involves eligibility assessment of each faculty member under CAS.
Higher Education Department sources at Chennai told ‘Lotus Times‘ news website on 14th July 2020 that another reason for the delay in implementing CAS for MKU faculty is due to “some objections” raised from Tamil Nadu Governor’s Office on promotions given to some professor level staff a few years ago.
The university authorities have to look into those complaints on promotions given already and verify the documents. Even while this is being done, the MKU Vice-Chancellor has initiated steps to look into the gradepay hike of lecturers assistant professors who do not have any problem or queries.
While the number of persons eligible for CAS was worked out, the varsity authorities are looking into the complaints following information received from Higher Education Department and the Governor’s Office.
Sources have said today that the VC has cleared the Rs.6,000 to Rs.7,000 scale and those eligible for the next two grade pays up to Rs.9,000 being worked out based on right calculations, experience etc.
According to information received from MKU Syndicate sources, the teaching faculty of MKU need not worry about their CAS because it is the Vice-Chancellor Dr.Krishnan who is interested in the advancement and promotions of faculty if ‘all the files and calculations are right’.
In the next few weeks, subject experts will be called for each subject where CAS is due for implementation. The files of concerned faculty members will be given to experts. Reliable sources said that CAS will be through for atleast a few faculty in two or three months from now.
