CHENNAI: Interviews for the 12 candidates shortlisted from a long list of applicants for the Vice-Chancellor position of University of Madras will be conducted and completed in one day.
The shortlisted 12 candidates will be intimated about the date and time of their interview very soon immediately after getting an appointment with Tamil Nadu Governor-Chancellor Mr.Banwarilal Purohit, sources in higher education told ‘Lotus Times‘ news website today- 14th July 2020.
Shortlisting of candidates was done by a three-member VC Search Committee by strictly following certain conditions- professional experience- merit criteria out of total 177 list of applicants from various parts of the country. This shortlisting process was completed last week.
“Interviews for all the 12 candidates will be done in one day itself. For those from Tamil Nadu, they will be asked to come to Chennai for this interview and for those from outside the State, interview will done online,” sources added.
“Interviews for 12 candidates will be conducted one day before the appointment date given by our Governor-Chancellor Mr.Purohit. After finishing the 12 interviews in one day prior to that date given by Governor, the search committee will submit three names to the Governor based on interview result and he will take the final decision on appointment of new VC,” sources said and added that the entire process will be over by the end of July 2020.
The Search Committee constituted for the purpose consists of Dr.M.Jagadeesh Kumar (panel convener), Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Dr.P.Maruthamuthu, former Vice-Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, and Prof.P.Ramasamy, former Vice-Chancellor of Alagappa University, Karaikudi.
This committee had scrutinized all the 177 applications received for the post of Madras University Vice-Chancellor from which 60 have been shortlisted and further vetted to final list of 12 candidates who will be called for attending the interview soon. The Search Committee had three meetings totally.
