MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association Limited, Madurai, has complained that police are stopping vehicles-goods carriers at night time and collecting spot fine even though the Central government has permitted plying of vehicles carrying essential and non-essential goods.
Mr.S.Jeyapragasam, President, Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association, wrote a letter on 8th July 2020 to Madurai District Collector Dr.T.G.Vinay and Madurai City Police Commissioner Mr.Prem Anand Sinha requesting them to instruct the night time police not to impose fine.
Along with the letter, he also sent copies of the fine challan given by the police here on 7th July 2020 night.
“Goods carriers and vehicles taking foodgrains etc are allowed to transport goods at night time. The Centre had relaxed it recently when it eased the lockdown rules. But still, police are stopping the goods carriers and vehicles with foodgrains, they are collecting fine. Please take steps to stop that and tell police to allow goods carriers,” Mr.Jeyapragasam has appealed.
