MADURAI: Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Dr.J.Radhakrishnan has said today that works related to setting up of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Madurai will be speeded up and the State government is in constant touch with the Centre.
“Gazette notification came from the Government of India on 3rd July 2020. It is a very important development. AIIMS in Madurai is a milestone for Tamil Nadu. Unfortunately some slowdown took place because of COVID-19 lockdown, but work will be speeded up soon,” he said while talking to mediapersons at Thoppur in Madurai today- 6th July 2020.
Dr.Radhakrishnan has informed that authorities are in talks with JAICA for getting the funds early and also a governing body for Madurai AIIMS will be set up by the Central government. Already the Tamil Nadu government had allotted 324 acres of land for AIIMS purpose here and compound wall construction was taken up.
“The Chief Minister and all of us along with Revenue Minister Mr.R.B.Udayakumar are taking steps to fast track the AIIMS work. We are pursuing the matter step by step. People of Tamil Nadu are eagerly waiting for AIIMS in Madurai,” the Tamil Nadu Health Secretary added. Health Secretary Dr.J.Radhakrishnan, Revenue Minister Mr.R.B.Udayakumar, Madurai District Collector Dr.T.G.Vinay and others visited Thoppur in Madurai today where steps have been initiated to set up a 1,000-bed Corona care facility temporarily in view of increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases in Madurai district and surrounding places.
