MADURAI: Mr.S.Murugan has today assumed charge as South Zone IG of Police – Tamil Nadu, in Madurai, on 2nd July 2020. He had earlier served as Inspector General of Economic Offences Wing.
Talking to reporters after taking charge here this morning, Mr.Murugan has said that the Police Department is always committed to prevent lockup deaths and what has happened at Sathankulam in Tuticorin district as custodial deaths will not occur again if the police personnel follow the guidelines given to them.
“Caste clashes are not taking place now in southern districts of Tamil Nadu as was happening in the 90s because of the effective role of police,” the new South Zone IG, said today.
Mr.Murugan said that he will be in constant touch with district SPs and the DIG through video conferencing – online virtual mode to work out effective policing strategies and know the local grievances.
Before taking charge here in Madurai today, Mr.Murugan went to Sathankulam to get more details about the incident. Now that he took over as South Zone IG of Police, he is immediately visiting Sathankulam again.
