MADURAI: The mental agony of around 400 guest lecturers working in the constituent colleges of Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) has come to light adding more pain to them during this Corona crisis period.

These guest lecturers were not paid monthly salary since the month of April and the hardships caused by COVID-19 has made the situation worse for them. The guest lecturers are working in MKU’s constituent colleges situated at Alagarkoil Road in Madurai, Aruppukottai, Thirumangalam, Vedasandur and Sattur.

The ‘SAVE MKU COALITION’ has today made an appeal to MKU Vice-Chancellor Prof.M.Krishnan to take immediate steps for payment of salary to 400 guest lecturers on humanitarian grounds.

On 2nd July 2020, a statement was issued urging the MKU Vice-Chancellor to ensure that salary is paid to every guest lecturer.

“We condemn the delay in payment of salaries to guest lecturers of MKU constituent colleges. MKU authorities and the Vice-Chancellor should not wait for State government orders for payment of salary. They get only Rs.15,000 per month and if that is also not paid, it is very shocking.

Pay the salary now immediately and get it approved by the varsity Syndicate and Finance Committee later,” Dr.R.Murali, secretary, Save MKU Coalition and Dr.A.Srinivasan, its president, have demanded in a statement issued in Madurai on 2nd July 2020.
