Corona Counselling Centre to give psychological support

MADURAI: A 24-hour counselling centre was started to provide psychological and mental support to Corona affected persons and fever patients who are worried and anxious in the present COVID-19 scenario.
The special counselling centre (contact number 84824-25000), which has 11 trained counsellors and mental health experts, will function from the Madurai Corporation headquarters building ‘Anna Malaigai’ in Madurai. It also provides medical counselling for fever cases.

Tamil Nadu Ministers Mr.Sellur K.Raju and Mr.R.B.Udayakumar have opened the counselling centre in Madurai on 28th June 2020 in the presence of Madurai District Collector Dr.T.G.Vinay, Madurai Corporation Commissioner Mr.S.Visakan and public health officials.

The Madurai Corporation has stepped up fever surveillance in Madurai city through 1,400 personnel because of the rising number of Corona positive cases in Madurai city. All the 100 wards of Madurai Corporation will be covered with each volunteer going door-to- door to check fever cases.

Authorities here have taken steps to increase the number of beds available for Corona patients. More beds for treatment and isolation purposes have come up at the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH), Thiagarajar College, Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai Kamaraj University and at Thoppur Hospital. 

Through the special counselling centre, the worried and anxious patients will be given psychological psychiatric support, mental health mental confidence tips, safety precautions, recovery and treatment information. The expertise of leading mental health institution M.S.Chellamuthu Trust and Research Foundation was taken for starting the Corona counselling centre in Madurai.

Among those present at the inauguration of counselling centre in Madurai today were Deputy Director of Health Services Dr.Priya Raj and ACHO Dr.Vinodh Raja.
