MADURAI: With sudden rise in number of COVID-19 cases in Madurai, the Tamil Nadu government has announced a total lockdown from24th June to 30th June in Madurai district.
Since there is an increasing demand for beds in the Government Hospitals and beds are running out fast, the Madurai Division of Southern Railway has extended a helping hand by providing part of its Divisional Railway Hospital in Madurai for Covid patients to relieve some burden on State Government Hospitals. The infrastructure has been provided by Railway and other arrangements are being taken care by the State / district administration.
“Railway has recently converted its dormitory wards to comfortable cabins with basic facilities. All cabins have been equipped with centralized oxygen supply system to individual beds. Numerous augmentations have been made to enhance comfort level which includes mobile charging points, ventilation through exhaust fans and windows, arrangement to remotely play soothing music, yoga tips etc,” a railway press release from the Madurai Division PRO said here today- 24th June 2020.
Madurai District Collector Dr.T.G.Vinay and health & Medical department officials had inspected the Railway Hospital few weeks back.
The Divisional Railway Hospital here primarily serves around 25,000 persons which include families of railway staff spread over 1,300 km route of Madurai Division apart from retired staff families settled in the region. “It would continue its routine but essential function in other part of the Hospital building since there is no other alternative Railway Hospital in the region. Proper care has been taken for isolation of Covid and non-Covid zones,” the press release added.
