MADURAI: In a first of its kind initiative, contact less ticket-checking system is being implemented at Madurai, Virudhunagar, Dindigul and Tirunelveli junction railway stations
The Madurai Division of Southern Railway has taken steps to introduce contactless ticket checking system at four railway stations.
Because of COVID-19 pandemic, various steps are being taken by the Madurai division to prevent the deadly novel corona virus from spreading. Recently, camera based ticket checking system has been implemented by the Signal and Telecommunication branch at Madurai, Virudhunagar, Dindigul and Tirunelveli jn. railway stations in Madurai division.
At contactless ticket checking location, display monitor with web camera has been installed. The web camera provided on the passenger side is for showing the ticket and passenger identity particulars. The webcam is connected to the computer available with ticket checking staff. The ticket checking staff checks the PNR and other details of passengers capturing the particulars through the webcam.
Mr. V.R. Lenin, Divisional Railway Manager, has been the guiding force in development of this system, according to a press release from the Southern Railway Madurai Division here today- 23rd June 2020.
Mr.Gangula Suman, Sr. Divisional Signal and Telecommunication Engineer, had complimented for its successful implementation. Signal and Tele-communication team are working to further refine the system for its proliferation to other stations in Madurai division.
