MADURAI: A shocking information is coming to light that a few BJP Madurai Rural district office-bearers are demanding money from lorries involved in sand smuggling at night time.
Sources said that 12 persons belonging to the BJP have stopped a sand-laden lorry on 24th May 2020 night at Thiruvadhavur Road near Madurai and demanded Rs.2 lakhs.
BJP district functionaries were present there including a mandal president, sources added. A police officer had reached the spot and enquired about the demand. Now, there is a demand that the Melur police must hold a throrough investigation.
“The evidence available will be only phone records or any statement from the persons present there on the spot. This vehicle belongs to a leader belonging to another political party,” sources informed. However, there were BJP functionaries present at the spot when this had happened, the sources said.
