MKU maintains a benchmark in M.Sc Biotechnology course

MADURAI: The School of Biotechnology in Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) here has been approved by the Department of Biotechnology of Government of India to continue offering M.Sc Biotechnology course.

“Recently, DBT has evaluated the progress of universities which are currently offering M.Sc Biotechnology with its support and it has approved the School of Biotechnology of MKU to continue this programme further.

Quality of teaching, need based research and encouraging entrepreneurship in the areas of biotechnology will be further enhanced,” Prof.Sankar Natesan, MKU Registrar in-charge and Head of Department of Genetic Engineering in the School of Biotechnology, MKU, has said in a press release on 16th May 2020.

The entrance examination- Graduate Aptitude Test for Biotechnology GAT-B- for admission in this course will be conducted by the Regional Center for Biotechnology, Faridabad, with the support of DBT.

School of Biotechnology at MKU was started in 1985 and since then it has been occupying a prime place at national level by offering top class teaching and research for postgraduate students.

Admission to M.Sc Biotechnology is done through a national level common entrance test conducted by the DBT with the support of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

The DBT, which extends funding , wants to attract young minds and talent across the country towards biotechnology, the press release said. Selected students are offered with a fellowship.    

MKU Vice-Chancellor Dr.M.Krishnan has congratulated the faculty members of School of Biotechnology for getting the DBT nod to offer M.Sc Biotech course.
