MADURAI: Madurai MP Mr.S.Venkatesan has today charged that the State government had forgotten farmers who toiled in the fields and provided food to the people during the Corona lockdown period.

“The role of farmers during the 50 days of lockdown period was crucial. They continued to grow foodgrains and saved us from hunger. Unfortunately, they are forgotten by government,” the MP said on 16th May 2020.

Mr.Su.Venkatesan was speaking at Othakadai in Madurai after honouring a group of farmers in recognition of the service of farming community all over the country at the time of this lockdown.

“Farmers continue to be neglected. There are many people like doctors, police, nurses, government employees, health workers and sanitary workers who had done great service to save people from Coronavirus infection. Likewise, farmers also worked hard and gave us food to eat when everything was closed,” the Madurai MP had pointed out.
