MADURAI: A batch of 136 workers belonging to West Bengal and Meghalaya have left for their home States from Madurai today – 13th May 2020.
These guest workers who are working in various places in Madurai district wanted to go back to their places following which the district administration took steps for their transport in batches. While 77 workers are from West Bengal, the remaining 46 belong to Meghalaya.
The Tamil Nadu government has announced steps for the guest workers in the State to leave for their States if they desired. A large number of workers and students from other States could not go till now because of the Corona lockdown across the country and cancellation of trains and buses.
Stranded guest workers have approached the Madurai district authorities seeking help for their return to home States. A help desk was set up in the District Collectorate here to identify those who wanted to go back to their native places in other States.
Today’s was the third batch that had left from Madurai. The workers were taken to Chennai by buses from where they will proceed to their home States.
