MADURAI: On a day when nurses are being thanked for their noble service commemorating the International Nurses Day today 12th May 2020, a section of nurses came out pleading the Tamil Nadu Government to fulfill its promise of regularizing their jobs in government hospitals.

There are 8,000 nurses in Tamil Nadu who are waiting for a good news from the State government because their jobs are on a consolidated monthly salary of around Rs.15,000 per month now in government hospitals and were assured something else. In Madurai, they made a representation to District Collector Dr.T.G.Vinay.

Reminding the State government of its assurance to them, a large number of nurses who were appointed on a consolidated salary basis through Medical Recruitment Board for government hospitals five years ago across the State have come out urging the State government to absorb them since the assurance of two years was already over.

“We got selected in the year 2015 through an examination conducted by Tamil Nadu Medical Recruitment Board. It was a competitive exam and we got selected. The selected nurses were told that they will be regularized after two years of their service, but nothing was done to us till now. It is five years over,” Mrs.S.K.Sujatha, Madurai district secretary, Tamil Nadu MRB Nurses Empowerment Association, Madurai district, said today- 12th May 2020.

Urging the State government to look into their genuine demand immediately, the nurses who are working in various government hospitals have said that the are doing an important work during the present Corona control situation for the people.

“We are working for a  consolidated salary, but the work is same like those who work with higher salary as nurses in the same government  hospital. When the work is uniform, why not the salary? We request the government to regularize our jobs,” Mrs.Sujatha and other nurses have appealed today.
