MADURAI: Having a valid license is going to be the essence for anything connected to food items due to the stepped up focus by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

Small businesses or any small unit making food items without a name board will not be given license by the authorities. The particulars of persons running the business or even a tiny / small manufacturing unit should be given to food safety department.
Dr.M.Somasundaram, Designated Officer for Food Safety, Madurai district, told ‘Lotus Times’ today- 12th May 2020- that name board is going to be must to operate any business.

“For instance, in Madurai city, we are concentrating on places like Chinthamani, Anuppanadi, Villapuram and Avaniapuram which are untouched areas. Here, business will be roaring but there will not be a nameboard outside. Such things will not be allowed any longer,” he said today.

Stating that the Food Safety teams will bring everyone under the system of license, the details of persons running the business and the address are being collected. For the past one week, the food safety officials are on the field to complete this specific work.

“The whole objective is safety and standards. We should know who is running what business and who is the manufacturer. Small businesses are being covered because they go unnoticed or unchecked,” Dr.Somasundaram has stressed.  So, getting a license without a name board outside and without furnishing the particulars to food safety department officials will not be possible.
