Raise retirement age to 65, university faculty plea to CM

MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Federation of University Faculty Associations (TANFUFA) has made a representation to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr.Edappadi K.Palanisami to extend the retirement age for university teaching faculty from the present 60 years to 65 years.

“TANFUFA welcomes the recent decision of Government of Tamil Nadu for extending the age of retirement for State government employees including college teachers and others from 58 years to 59 years. We request the Tamil Nadu government to increase, to raise the retirement age of university faculty members also from 60 to 65 years,” it said.

Dr.K.Krishnamoorthy, president, TANFUFA and Dr.J.Balasubramaniam, secretary, have written a letter to the Chief Minister on behalf of the association on 8th May 2020, in this regard.

“This is a long pending demand from thousands of faculty members from all the State universities in Tamil Nadu. The age of superannuation in Central universities is 65,” they had pointed out in their representation to the Chief Minister. TANFUFA represents the teachers’ associations of State universities.

“If the Tamil Nadu government takes a decision to raise the age of retirement of university teachers in the State to 65 years, it will also be a milestone decision,” Dr.Krishnamoorthy and Dr.Balasubramaniam have said.
